Meet Thorunn Arnadottir
Designer of the Pyropet Candles

I started wondering whether the ritual of sacrificing a candle could be made even more dramatic. I wanted to design a candle that was pretty on the outside, but would transform into something creepier, perhaps almost like it was shaming you for lighting it on fire. That’s how I came up with the idea of making a cute cat shaped candle that would reveal a menacing metallic skeleton after it’s been lit.

Meet Carl Durkow
The designer and maker of the Spindle Candles

The shapes I created all felt like pieces of a puzzle, each able to stand alone or to be used as some type of ornamental cap to a post. Some were planned but most were spontaneous experiments on the lathe that I had created and set on a shelf to appreciate and inspire new pieces. Something about them felt fresh and in their wooden forms their story seems unfinished, but given a function and purpose they gained a new life...
