We are proud to work with emerging designers, artists, and craftspeople from around the world to bring you products that are not just candles, but wax works of art — and we want to tell their stories. So we are taking a moment to sit down and have a conversation with each of the creative minds behind the candles.
Meet Thorunn Arnadottir
Designer of the Pyropet Candles
I started wondering whether the ritual of sacrificing a candle could be made even more dramatic. I wanted to design a candle that was pretty on the outside, but would transform into something creepier, perhaps almost like it was shaming you for lighting it on fire. That’s how I came up with the idea of making a cute cat shaped candle that would reveal a menacing metallic skeleton after it’s been lit.
Meet Lex Pott
Creator of the Twist Candle
This time around we’re featuring Lex Pott, the artist and designer who brought the Twist Candle to life. Throughout our conversation, he opened up to us about his boyhood growing up among artists, how materials can inform the finished product, and what lessons he thinks designers and makers can take from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meet Justinas Bružas
Founder of CandleHand & CandleCan Candles
Talking to us this time is Justinas Bružas, the Lithanian designer of the CandleHand hand gesture candles and the CandleCan scented food shaped candles. He was generous enough to speak with us about his process, inspiration, and the unique story of how he got into the business of creating this playful candle line.
Meet Sophy Hollington
The Artist and Illustrator behind our Tarot Candles
For this installation, we were lucky enough to have a chat with artist and illustrator Sophy Hollington, whose eye-catching linocut designs adorn our Tarot Candles. Here we discuss her process and passions as an artist, the inspirations behind her work, and how her dreams of creating a deck of tarot cards became a reality.
